I always wanted to play WH40k, but seeing how I paint an average of 10 minis a year I never considered it a realistic possibility - until I stumbled upon GF:F that is. So now I ordered a Space Marines Tactical Squad (what else!) and I have a question for people experienced in the system: how would you assemble them for 150 pts Battle Brothers and what would you add to upgrade them to 200 and 300 points? It's not that I'm lazy, I just haven't got a slightest idea what works and what doesn't in the game (and I have no practical experience with its' parent system either).
Since you are playing small games you could probably set them up with 5 Assault Rifles and 1 option each of Gravity Rifle, Fusion Rifle, Plasma Rifle, Flamethrower and Missile Launcher. Then when you play you just pick whichever models you prefer. You can also set up one model as a Sergeant with different weapon options but there what you choose depends on you, or if you want to magnetize the model so you can change on the fly that's even better.
Personally I like to keep things simple, so for a 150pts game I would probably take 4 Battle Brothers, give 1 a Plasma Rifle and another 1 a Plasma Pistol + Energy Fist, maybe give him Veteran Infantry to act as a sort of mini-hero.
I realize I'm late to this party--been a bit since I logged in, but I'd probably not plan on using the Missile Launcher that often. If you can, I'd recommend getting your hands on some heavy bolter bits and going that route (assuming you haven't put these guys together already).
If you have assembled them, I'd suggest making your next purchase be a devastator squad to get those good bits! There are some pretty cool helmet options in there too.
In any case, GF:FF is a great way to get some models on the table without breaking the bank and without making you feel like you can't make any progress painting. I'm slow as molasses when it comes to painting because I have to be in a certain mood. So, once in awhile, I'm in that mood and I paint a few and then don't do it for a month or so.
Also, post up painting pics. This is a pretty friendly community
