Just played my first game of Grim Dark Future, and wanted to feedback some thoughts that myself and my opponent had.
Firstly, we absolutely loved the alternating activation. Made the game so much more engaged as neither of us switched off during the opposing players turn. Also made decisions on who to activate much more tactical. Overall we just really enjoyed the game a lot!
We did have some suggestions and questions though!
My friend played Havoc Brothers Disciples, and felt the Plague drone needed a melee option, and a heavier weapon option. Also, Plague Brothers could do with some special melee weapon options too. Overall though he thought the army felt really thematic!
Looking over Battle Brothers, I was also wondering if there was a way to make "Veteran Squads", where each member has a special weapon. I see under the "E" upgrade tree you can choose to "Replace one Assault Rifle". Is that one total, or could you replace more so that the whole squad is tooled up? I suppose this might step on the toes of the Support Brothers, but maybe the slightly lighter special weapons could be added to them instead? Or maybe a new unit with just those? The Brothers felt good though, tough and elite!
Glad to hear you are liking the game! Here some thoughts on your suggestions:
Plague Drone - I'll see what I can do in terms of adding some more weapon options.
Plague Brothers - These already have plenty of melee weapon options though? Everyone can have Toxic CCWs and you can equip some models with Energy Swords or Energy Fists.
Battle Brothers - This is something we're very torn about. Right now we already have 2 almost identical options with the Battle Brothers and the Support Brothers, and idk that we really want to add another dedicated Veteran Brothers option. We already have the Veteran Infantry upgrade for that, and if you'd like to equip them all with special weapons you can go ahead and do that. Sometimes I think it would be best if Battle Brothers just always have the option to exchange any weapon, and then we wouldn't need the Support Brothers entry...
Thanks for coming back to me, love your commitment to community interaction!
I guess you're right with the Plague Brothers, he only wanted options for Plague Flails to be a thing I think.
I can see the dilemma with the Battle Brothers. I feel like support brothers are good as they are, works with the fluff and making them veterans might be a bit strong. I do feel like maybe just allowing your basic Brothers the option to swap out all their weapons would be good, and give some more flexibility.
