For a long time I've wanted to create a fast, furious, fun set of space battle rules.
I also really love the idea of differnet universes battling it out. Halo Vs Dropfleet, Star Trek vs 40k, Star wars vs Babylon 5 etc.
With the simplicity of the OPR system and the quite balanced create-a-unit system, I believe there is a great amount of potential for a starship battle game.
Is this something that folks would be interested in?
Shall I continue working up a draft? Your thoughts are greatly appreciatied.
Here are a few ideas i am considering:
Would we require a greater range of randomisation over a D6? D10's maybe?
Assign each ship a class? Capital, Super-capital, Not-captial (?) or Size Value (?)
when buying ships or squadrons ayou can create battlegroups of ships that activate together. Battlegroups cannot go over a certain total Size value
All measurements are made from centre pole on the base (or centre of model, if multiple poles).
Line of Sight is only considered obsureced if the line passes through Area Terrain (astroid fields, nebula etc)
in my head there are 5 arcs of fire; Front, Rear, Port, Starboard, and All (360-degrees). When design a ships weapons, there is a cost multiplier depending on number of arcs it can be used in.
There is a possiblilty of a 6th Arc (Narrow Fore) for very fixed forward weapons. but am unsure if this is nessacary in the fluid game like GDF
Quality and Defense are nice and simple. would we need to add in Speed? make Tough a standard Stat instead of a Special rule?
Example: UNSC Paris-class Frigate Speed Fast Quality 4+ Defense 4+ Tough 1
When activating a Squadron/Battlegroup it must move at least X inches forward before making each 45-degree turn
Escort/Screening- Squadrons with this rule count as area terrian for the purpose of LOS for friendly models (IE they can block shots being targeted at other friendly ships)
Carrier - Are launchable ships like fighters, bombers, boarding craft, treated as seperate vessels, or as another form of weapon?
Nimble - Ships with this rule may perform a 45-turn at the beginning of its movment? or can perform turns at x-1 inches forward?
