the distinct unit thing is fairly new, I suspect that the executioner ability wasn't addressed.
A quick possible idea while waiting for an official update could be: if a unit fails moral within 6" of an executioner, kill/wound any unity within 6" of the executioner, all other models within 6" automatically pass this round.
That or just don't use that one unit for the time being.
Thanks for the quick reply! yeah, the executioner rule looks like an oversight, but i'm wondering what was the basis for making multi-model units into distinct units after deployment. I assumed the tradeoff for taking poor quality units was that you could take a big blob of them to soak wounds and hope that by rolling a bunch of dice you might score some hits.
Seems like we forgot about the Executioner rule, sorry, we'll fix it in the next patch!
As we decided to make the change of having all models act as individuals to give the game a much more skirmish feel, as well as keeping the rules more consistent (since all models behave the same, instead of having some being instantly killed vs others having to roll on the wound chart). There is still a trade-off with poor quality units, as they can use the "stick together" rule to increase their survivability, although it does make them vulnerable to weapons with multiple attacks.
Thanks! I found the august update where you discussed the reasoning behind the unit group change, thanks for responding here as well! I'm excited to try out the new rules in our next game and see how it shakes out. we'll likely be "stress testing" the rules to see what happens if you bring a ton of poor quality models, like 20 orks or something.
