TLDR: My experiment proved wrong. The best way to promote OPR is through my original YouTube channel. In a couple weeks I will shut down the Wyloch Plays channel, and I apologize to all of you.
I launched my second channel, Wyloch Plays, to separate gameplay content from crafting tutorial content. This decision was based on a lot of research into YouTube best practices, and the advice of several YouTube experts - - you want your content to be as niche as possible to have the best chance at growth.
After some runtime, the view count on my battle reports is actually much lower than when I was releasing them via my primary channel, Wyloch’s Armory. So, this has had the opposite effect I was hoping for.
Additionally, although it might harm my analytics by re-consolidating back to one channel, I have come to the personal conclusion that I don’t care. I am done trying to do search engine optimization and “working the system.” I’m simply going to make videos My Way and have fun doing it, and if it doesn’t ever explode big-time, then fine.
I’m so sorry to all of you, who subscribed to Wyloch Plays and helped launch it. I made this forum thread, and you responded big time. Gaetano in particular went out on a limb for me by making this a big deal in one of his weekly updates - I am especially sorry to you for spinning wheels needlessly.
But the good news is: 1) At least now I know. What I learned from this experiment - what wasn’t clear to me before - is what I’m truly trying to get out of being a YouTuber, and the answer is: not a full-timer. Just having fun. 2) Going back to Wyloch’s Armory means that 68,000 people will once again be notified when a OnePageRules battle report gets posted. Long term, I think that will be the best way to promote GF’s vision and help this community grow. To say it another way: it was too late to “start over.” It’s better to just use the existing bully pulpit I’ve built.
In conclusion, I once again apologize. I’ve yanked your chains, which is surely annoying. Probably just as annoying as having to read this post. I cringe as I type this. I promise nothing like this will happen again, and I will attention-whore no more.
All existing content will re-appear on Wyloch’s Armory (I actually never deleted it, just hid it). I’m excited to move on and be bringing you new battle reports soon on Wyloch’s Armory, including a 9,000 point armageddon between Havoc and a unified human army. Nothing will stop me from advocating for OPR in the best way that I can.
First time post in this forum but I feel like a response to the decision to cancel the Wyloch Plays channel merits a register just to say a little something. I truly enjoy the battle reports and the promotion it provides of this fine project we all enjoy as beginner and veteran wargamers of all sorts.
In my opinion though, I think your views on the new plays channel might be a little low because of the simple fact that the ones who enjoy them, have probably watched them already. I don't think enough time has passed to allow it to prove a worthy venture. The ones who eagerly await to watch the battle reports are going to watch them no matter where they are uploaded as shown by the response to the decision in this thread alone. The crafting audience and the BR audience can have a cross section but the BRs are not what made the channel thrive to begin with. It might just be too little too late but, it just seems that not enough new content has been placed and not enough time has been given, as the older content has already been consumed by the interested audience.
I know you've made up your mind and I will continue to enjoy the videos no matter where they are, just thought I would throw my thoughts in.
Wyloch, from my perspective - no worries. I get what you were trying to do, and it made sense, but I was still more than happy to see batreps on your main channel. And, while I am sure you have followers on your main channel that do not care about OPR (this forum is probably not the most unbiased place in that regard...haha), I can say from personal experience that most of the YouTube channels I follow have a sub-series of videos for which I do not care.
Do you already have a batreps playlist created? That would be really helpful to folks who are looking for that content in particular.
One final comment... "9,000 point armageddon between Havoc and a unified human army"? I think you had previously mentioned 10,000, and the gods of Havoc are going to be really disappointed...
I like my tea, as I like my nights: dark, endless, and impossible through which to sleep.
I watched your Father's Day "Wyfe-loch" video on your channel - *excellent* work!
I posted a couple comments & questions in the comments but thought I'd post them here to 'up the signal' -
Your wife must be commended - she was patient, composed, and only used “The Look” a couple times (and honestly, you deserved it😄).
A couple questions as I left the 1Pg40k camp a few years ago and am now getting back into GDF... 1. I love the force lists you made (seen at 1:24) - is there a template I could “borrow”, 2. I might have mis-interpreted the rules and what I saw in the vid - hits from Deadly weapon are all inflicted on one model but hits from Blast weapons can be applied across multiple models in a unit, right? ...and... 3. Do you have a video covering how you painted your Necrons? They look *good*! 👍🏻
