Based on the wording "...and they double their attacks when targeting enemy ships in their side facing", does this mean when the attacking ship targets an enemy ship in the enemy ship's side facing, or does the enemy ship need to just be in the attacking ship's side facing, and orientation of the enemy ship does not matter? Thanks.

It has to be in the target's side facing.

On the subject of the broadside wording "Weapons with this special rule may only be mounted on the sides facing, and they double their attacks when targeting enemy ships in their side facing.". If I have a 2 atk broadside weapon, do I then attack with 2 dice or 4 dice, when I attack something in my side facings? And since they are restricted to the side facing mounts, so therefore they always attack enemies in teh side facings, then isn't that the same as just giving them 4 attacks base, and ignoring the "double their attacks" part? Or is there something I missed that makes that part of the rule relevant?

You only get the double if your ship is also in the target's ship's side facing. If you are in the target's front or rear facing you don't get the double.
It's like old sailing ships with their broadside exchanges.

Narratively, that makes sense, but the sentence "they double their attacks when targeting enemy ships in their side facing" confuses me then. Because it seems the first "they" and "their" refers to the attacking ship, but if what you are saying is true, then the second "their" would refer to the defending ship? But if I try to replace "they" with "I" and "their" with "my", in order for me to understand the sentence better, then it reads: "Weapons with this special rule may only be mounted on the sides facing, and I double my attacks when targeting enemy ships in my side facing." This is the cause of my confusion, because I can't find anywhere in the rulebook that says anything about where I have to be in relation to my target, only where my target has to be in relation to myself. I'm sorry if I ramble, I'm just really confused, and can find no rule quotes or official clarifications ^^;

Their is a context sensitive possessive pronoun referencing to the next noun or pronoun before it. Otherwise it would be nonsensical to mention the side facing again, since weapons mounted in the side facing of a ship can only target enemies in the ships side facing.

Okay, thank you for the explanation. English is not my first language
